Web Terminology (Lynda.com Videos)

How the Web works:
The web is a foundation where the Servers can communicate with the Clients

What is a URL:
It stand for Uniformed Resource Locator

The DNS and why it matters:
It stands for Domain Name Server (Internet Phonebook). It is important, because it looks up the IP address and sends it back to Server, so it can find the site.

HTTP and Web Controls:
HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. This protocol allows devices to talk to each other (The client & Server) to search for request.
Web Controls are FTP, SMTP, and RTP
FTP - File transfer Protocol - Typically used to transfer large files, it is ideal for uploading or downloading files.
SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - The standard web protocol for sending mail. Post Office Protocol (POP) is typically receiving the mail.

RTP:
Real-time transfer Protocol. Standard protocol for serving audio or video on the web.

How does a browser work:
Browsers work with HTTP to request pages and content. Once received the request, it renders the pages and content on to the screen.

What is HTML:
Hyper Text mark-up language. Standard mark-up language for web pages. HTML uses tags that identify the content.

RSS Feeds:
Real simple syndication. Standard meaning of publishing content on the web.

jpeg, gif, png:
These and many other graphic file types are used to encode digital images. These are best used for photographs and images.
